Blog Post #2
The purpose of the website "I AM A MIGRANT" is to have a place where migrants can go and share their personal stories and experiences. It is a page created by the International Organization for Migration and it works by migrants sharing their stories and pushing efforts to end discrimination against people who have had the same experiences of migrating. This allows an opportunity for those people to have their voices heard. I think that something like this is great because in order to raise awareness and more understanding towards the struggle that these populations of people have to go to in order to live comfortable and purposeful lives. I think they call it a campaign because I don't necessarily see an end to this site or the number of stories that can be shared. There will always be people around the world who will share their struggles and past experiences in order to enhance the general population's knowledge of what they really must go through. When it comes to the target audience and who it was created to serve I believe it was created to serve not just the migrants but like I said before, everyone else who wouldn't otherwise comprehend what kind of things that they have gone through.
Atabuddin, (Malaysia) Fled Myanmar
This story caught my attention because of how many kilometers he and his family traveled (2,000) by boat and by foot and just the thought of how physically and mentally barring that could possibly be. It is connected to what we have discussed in class because the place they are fleeing from is the country of Myanmar, which is actually the country that I am doing for my presentation on problematic refugee countries. One of the biggest push factors was the lack of any opportunities for work and the surge of the pandemic caused a lot of issues in even trying to survive there along with a lot of problems surrounding violence in the area. There weren't necessarily pull factors specifically to Malaysia but he was just in search of any living conditions with less violence and discrimination than the previous living conditions.
